Swiss Silhouette's Ariel
RA x
Windraider Zuppke's Flea Flicker
RN(aka "Zea") Whelped on 3/14/2010 Litter I Theme: Isles of the world All puppies have been spoken for now. I am leaving the multitude of pictures from their first 8 weeks for a little while longer. It is sad that this is Ariel's last litter and I am not ready to say good bye to the pictures just yet:). But, as you all send in more of them growing in their own homes, I will try to reduce mine. We love getting the wonderful updates about how happy & healthy all the pups are. Thank you all very much for giving our babies great homes:)! |
|
|
Ariel whelped 11 puppies, with one being still born and only 5
oz. We ended up with 6 healthy girls and 4 healthy
boys. We are not quite at 24 hours yet, but they have all
gained at least 1/2 oz. and are nursing robustly. Ariel
free whelped all 11 in 7 hours. She is eating, caring for
her pups and doing very well. We will update pictures and weights each Sunday until they are 8 weeks old. All pups have 4 white feet, full white chests, and white tips on their tails. Some have more or less than others, but they all have the tips. Blazes on faces vary.
![]() Wk. 1:
![]() Pip checking out the new group of puppies. It was his first time seeing them and he was quite fascinated. Even at 8 wks...they have such a gentle nature! And, is it not amazing what happens in 7 weeks? That is the age difference between the two pups!
![]() 3/22/10: We lost Iona today. We are all very sad, but it was an accident that happened with the mom. Although they are usually safe from this at this point, it can still happen. We are not sure if Ariel stepped on Iona and injured her, or if she got caught under her and suffocated, but either way it happened. Ariel is generally a very careful mom, nudging them into a little pile before she lies down, but obviously this is a risk when a very large dog has so many little ones to watch. Our hearts break with the loss. WK 2: Sorry we are a couple days late with the updates. I had evaluations on litter H in Portland and had to miss updating the puppies. Ariel's owner had her and the puppies home for the weekend and got to "enjoy" the opportunity to have puppies at their house:)! I got them back this morning and had a good laugh as they looked a little tired:)! But, what a change 3 days made! They are fat and sassy, walking/toddling, their eyes are open, and they have little barks. Cute bunch of pups! Remember that the weights are 2 days post their b.d. so next week will not look like quite as much. Sorry for the over exposed pictures. I obviously had the puppies in too bright of light.
jean biting...already!
![]() ![]() Wk. 3 update: The end of a long Easter Sunday, and again, Ariel & kids went to her own home for the day. I am squeezing in an update and pictures at the end of the day, so not too much activity...sleepy pups, and hungry pups...that about it. New for this last week is that they have started on some solid food. They love it, and eat very greedily. They are getting pretty strong little legs and move about quite capably now. Ariel is doing great, but I didn't get pictures of her this time, because I had the food out, and she is pretty sure she needs all theirs too. I will try hard to get some better activity tomorrow. Sorry about some of the individual pictures too...I didn't have any help holding pups, till my husband finally felt sorry for me:)!
![]()
![]() At three weeks they are also getting dewormed. Our puppy above is NOT impressed. 4 Wk. update: Pups are doing fantastic:)! Lots of little barks, growls, tail wags, and eating like crazy. Very mobile now, but still slightly "toddling." This last week we have worked on lots of startle noises because it is the week before they really have a "fear instinct." I have vacuumed their box with them in it, I have dropped dishes, put the radio on, started the car around them, had LOTS of visitors and of course most of them being kids and the great thing about socializing with children is that they are loud, unpredictable, and make quick movements. The pups have spent their first day outside today as it is FINALLY not snowing, blowing, or raining. We have a nice spring day!
![]()
WK. 5 update: Okay, I am going to tell my dogs..."No more Sunday deliveries!" I am sorry that my Sundays are too busy to get the pictures up! But, we are only 1 day late again, and they are getting tons of personality, really cute, and fun. They love the other dogs, the cat, the kids, the adults (really, I don't think their tails ever stop wagging...a really happy group of pups). They are eating dry kibble now with lots of fruit and veges in between. We have had lots of visitors and lots of cuddles for the all these babies.
![]()
![]()
![]() they love raw bones, and chasing the bigger dogs... 6 wk. update: We are for real puppies now:). 6 wks. means they are now getting their first shots and playing seriously. They have a funny little waddle that moves REALLY fast! Getting pictures of them not crowded at my feet is getting more challenging, but still doable. Puppies are totally intrigued by visitors and all seem very confident with new sounds, people, and situations.
![]()
![]() Again, size difference comparing to Coda.
![]() 7 wk. update: People are asking: They are eating Taste of the Wild, Pacific Stream formula & I mix in Diamond Naturals, Lrg. breed puppy food. All puppies love fresh veges, fruits, berries, yogurt, and raw bones. I apologize! The lawn did get mowed AFTER the pictures:)! What more can we say? They are adorable, hilarious, sweet, feisty...all of it:). They go for their evaluations this coming Friday, and I know every one is really excited to see what puppy is coming home with them. We promise to call asap:) Enjoy the following pics...
![]() Clean up is massive around here right now, and helpers are great. But, help for the helpers? Not always appreciated, LOL!
![]() ![]() ![]()
where did every one else go?
![]()
![]() Can't you just share a little lick of the that bone!?
![]() Oh shoot...what do I do now??
![]() ![]() Okay...thats us! We really don't stay in one place...we get into everything, and we love life:) 8 Wk. update: We are not sure who is getting more excited! New owners or us:)! Just a week to go (give or take a few days on each end) and they are on their way! They are all confident, happy puppies and ready to get individual attention now. The evaluations are done, and new owners know who their new family members will be. Our next postings will only be new family pictures:). ![]() Coda sneaking a little, but was quickly reprimanded!
snacks don't last more than 3 min., but they still try for more!

![]() ![]() Here is a photo of Colette relaxing outside at her new home. 6/26/10 Dear Shelly, Here's some photos of Colette. We are enjoying her tons! She has been socialized with over 65 people so far (we are keeping a list). Everyone loves her. She had her Parvo shot this week. She loves biting any tall grass outside and also loves rolling in it. She has been exposed to lots of different noises and listens to the frogs in our neighbor's yard at night. I'll try to write more later. We are glad that she hasn't picked up Winnie's habit of barking when anyone comes to the door. She just walks eagerly to the door, wagging her tail. She is a very happy, confident, well adjusted dog |

![]() Yep, he has some showing off to do:)! We look forward to seeing him in the ring! ![]() The trip home was great. He is a good traveler so far. When we got home, we introduced him to Perry (our golden), took another bathroom break, and then off to the school to pick up the kids. What a surprise for them to find Reuss in the car waiting for them. :o) We even stopped by the band room, and he did great there too. Surprisingly the band instruments didn't bother him. He was so laid back! Just sitting in my lap listening to the music of the 6th grade band...amazingly well tempered puppy!!! He's home now lying down chewing on a bone soaking up the quiet coolness of the air conditioned house. Thanks again for our Reuss! |

![]() Sorry, can't help but laugh at these sleepy pups!
![]()
loving looks and a new collar.![]() Dear First Mommy, I miss you and my folks and siblings....you all did such a good job showing me the world for the first time. I had a great trip home with Mom and my Godmothers....Mom and I are definitely bonded..in other words I am always under her feet and do not like it at all when she leaves the room!!! So she is making Dad take me over to the Alpenrose Dairy where I am the only dog allowed ( Know the owners) and I run their fields every morning....then in the evening Mom takes me to a very unused Park and I love it.....I am still very busy training them. I have made them feel good by sitting and sometimes coming. Oh, by the way I have a name......DUKE VON DERNEDDE!!! and I really respond to it....I love my vet, who said I was very healthy...and he said he saw lots of Berners..but never with feet like mine and he is so excited to watch me grow....Then there are Moms friends who when they see me start singing Duke,Duke,Duke Duke of Earl...they really sing badly!! I cannot begin to tell you how much I am loved around here...I have met some new people and their really nice dogs and forget Mom she is hopelessly in love with me...I think Dad is a little jealous that I don't sit on his feet all the time but we are training him to have special alone time with me. I have a family cat who tolerates me and seems to be very nice...I really like the smell of his food! Of course, as you well know, everyone thinks I am the cutest thing they have ever seen....Mom will too when I sleep through the night....That 2:30 yard visit is a must and I have them trained to get up and start there day @ 5:00...I heard then talk about pulling the blinds tomorrow!!! Just wanted you to know we are all happy and adjusting to a new life together. I will send you a picture of how much I have grown....Love Duke ![]() ![]() Dear Shelly, We would have written sooner but we have been very busy growing, playing and learning. Duke just finished his 14th week and weighs 37lbs and the vet says he is the picture of health. He is so smart!!! He can sit, come, stay and stay and leave it for quite a while...even for his morning meal and our Cat who loves to tease him. The other day we actually took Duke on a neighborhood walk and the cat followed...nothing like taking the whole family...He walks fine...but now we have to deal with the pulling in front instead of lagging behind!! He has such a great personality....loves everyone and every new experience. Don't worry he does not go up those stairs...but he knows how to "load up" on the ramp to the car with no problem. Thank you so much for breeding such a wonderful dog.
I am 55 lbs and have a personal trainer who comes to the house. I am now a really happy, and becoming, a well behaved pup who mom can take anywhere. My folks love me so much and I return it ten fold. Love Duke ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() Aaron actually held still for his picture:) Hello Shelly, Sorry it took so long to get back to you... it's puppy madness around here. Hendrix's vet check went well, he was surprisingly mellow throughout the process. He's a sweetheart. Jasper is tolerating him, and they seem to be working it out. Jasper gives him a snarl and Hendrix throws himself down and then barks at Jasper. It's quite funny. I'm feeling dedicated to crate training this time around, and if you have any advice...I'm working on happy in the crate right now. We are working on the pictures, Shiloh, the photographer, took some format that can only be unlocked at her photolab, raw something or other, I promise we will get you some. Thanks, |

![]() Hi Shelly, The trip home was placid. Simon slept some and spent the rest of the time sitting or lying on our lap. He has been sticking tight to us and playing a lot. Good, happy puppy. The only half decent photos are when he isn't bouncing around. :-)
![]() Yesterday, Simon got up from a nap and came into the den where I was on the computer, sat down, and aimed a single loud bark directly at me -- an obvious, "Let's go do something!" So I got up, and we played with dog toys for quite a while. Last night, he slept from 9:00 p.m. straight through to 4:15 a.m., when he needed to go to the bathroom. That was much appreciated. :-) He has the run of the house with no recent accidents, but hasn't yet directly asked to go out by going to the door, though I expect that to come soon. The first Bernese we had indicated needing to go out after only one week with us, which I thought very remarkable. As Simon continues to explore, we make incremental improvements to puppy-proofing the house. Yesterday, the toilet paper roll moved from its holder up to the sink top. :-) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A happy pup:) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He is a master of "Sit", "Lie down", "No", and house training. He has a good foundation in "Come", "Stay", and "Drop". His current weight is a solid fifty pounds, and he does not lack for energy. Life is pretty easy now, with the early puppy stuff mostly in the past. He is a wonderful friend. Hi Shelly,
Over the past few weeks, we have been watching a
beautiful mantle of shining, swirling big dog fur grow
over Simon's back and the faintest hint of a plume on
his tail. He has become a calm (compared to a puppy)
and deeply affectionate companion.

![]() ![]() And home she has gone: ![]() Shelly, Here are a couple of pictures of Tillie. The Golden retirever is Charlie, my sister's dog. Tillie had a busy day today starting with the Vet visit--everyone at the Vet's office thought she was the cutest. The children (and staff) at school immediately fell in love with her and showered her with pets and pats and hugs. She is currently fast asleep on my office tile floor--exhausted. She should sleep well tonight:) She actully did pretty well last night in the crate for bed time, whined for only a couple minutes then settled down. I awoke and let her outside at 12:30 and 4:00ish to pee, which she did both times. No messes in the crate and no messes so far in my house or office. She loves the big back yard, lots to investigate, some chatty Jays and other birds to spark her curiosity. My cat Kateri is not impressed yet, and gave her a little slap yesterday. Tillie has been very gentle and pretty slow with her approach but Kateri is a little old and crotchety--she's not afraid of Tillie, just not quite sure if she wants to be buddies. Tillie is fitting in famously here at school and it has only been one day! I love her--she's a sweety! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
